So
you are going away and don't know who to entrust your beloved greyhound
to? Wouldn't you love to know that your greyhound is having a great time
while you are away in the home of another greyhound? And wouldn't it give
you peace of mind to know that a family that knows how to properly care
of a greyhound is also caring for yours?
Look no further! All greyhounds, regardless of which adoption greyhound
organization they originated from, are welcome to participate in our vacation
home program!
Here's how it works: Simply complete the vacation
home form and submit it to our vacation home coordinator. You will
be asked specific information about your greyhound's personality and special
needs. By submitting your vacation home form, you are entered into our
database and can tap into our vacation home services at any time.
When you are planning your vacation, contact our vacation home coordinator
via email or call (734) 420-3253.
Please make sure you call as far in advance as possible. Our coordinator
will provide you with a list of greyhound families in your area that match
your needs (i.e., making sure that if your greyhound finds kitties tasty,
you are not asking a greyhound home with cats to watch your puppy!). You
then can begin contacting these families and making arrangements with
the family you decide to work with.
Keep
in mind that by being a part of our vacation home database, you will also
receive phone calls from other greyhound families who would like a fellow
greyhound owner to watch their greyhound. This does not mean you are obligated
to say "yes", but the program is designed to be reciprocal whenever feasible.
Special Note: Michigan REGAP provides extensive training to families who
adopt through our organization on how to properly care for a greyhound.
However, our vacation home database contains families who have adopted
through other greyhound adoption agencies. We cannot make any guarantees
as to the effectiveness of training provided to families who adopt from
other greyhound adoption agencies. It is strongly recommended that you
interview each prospective vacation home and determine if they can properly
care for your greyhound (i.e., leashing, crating, feeding, behavior of
children in the home, etc.).
