Brittany the Greyhound has had lots of digestive issues lately. She’s only 6-years old, but all of a suddent a few weeks ago her poops turned into chocolate solve serve (sorry for the visual!) How to Feed Olewo Carrots to Greyhounds
My Preparation Tips
Here’s exactly what I did to prepare Olewo Carrots for our Greyhound Brittany:
- Measure the appropriate serving size based on your dog’s weight (refer to the serving size chart on the package.) A little goes a LONG way so try out a small teaspoonful at first to see if your Greyhound likes it. My pictures below is probably closer to a tablespoonful as an FYI.
- Soak the measured Olewo Carrots in warm water for about 15 minutes, until they become soft and easy to mix. My experience is that it takes at least 15-20 minutes for the water to get fully absorbed. As you’ll see from the pictures below, it’s still a bit watery in the small clear bowl and we’re approaching 10-12 minutes so far. By the time it was ready at the 15-20 minute mark, it had firmed up quite a bit more (see it mixed with the bowl of kibble.)
- Mix the softened carrots into your dog’s regular food, which can be kibble, wet food, or raw.
Serving Sizes
When feeding Olewo Carrots to your Greyhound, use the following guidelines for serving sizes:

For Brittany, we do about a teaspoonful ever meal (which is twice per day.) I normally go down a bit early to the kitchen and add the pellets to water at least 15-20 minutes before eating time. So if you normally feed your Greyhound at 5pm, make sure you go down and start hydrating the Olewo carrot pellets closer to 4:40-4:45pm.
Remember to monitor your Greyhound’s health and appearance regularly making sure they are maintaining a healthy weight and appearance. If needed, make adjustments to their diet, including the frequency and amount of Olewo Carrots being fed.
And if your Greyhound falls asleep on the couch like Brittany did below, best to let them go. She deserves a nice couch all to herself once in a while, right? 🙂

With Brittany, we knew she liked carrots as we would give her some cooked carrots with some roast beef whenever the family had it for dinner. We only have her a little bit as a treat, but she definitely scarfed them up! But if your Greyhound never at them before, go slow to ensure there are no issues.

To avoid this, start with small amounts mixed into your Greyhound’s regular meal, gradually increasing the portion size over a week or two.
For Brittany, the effects have only been positive. A few months back when she had runny poops she also had wicked gas issues. It was not uncommon to have her clear a room or an entire floor of the house because of the foul odor. I felt bad that she had these issues and I can tell you with 100% accuracy that the Olewo carrots have cleared that issue up entirely. In the last few weeks I have yet to see or hear any gas issues. That in itself is a small miracle considering how gassy she was not long ago.
Choking Hazard
Since these turn into mushy soft carrots, you shouldn’t see any choking issues. However, some dogs love these carrots so much that they’ll eat and swallow them as quickly as they can. Be sure to spread them over your dog’s food evenly (see our pics above) so you avoid any choking issues.
Nutrient Imbalance
Overfeeding Olewo carrots can lead to imbalances in your Greyhound’s nutrition. Carrots should not replace a complete and balanced diet for your dog.
